Assignment 2

I approached this pavilion with the goal of making a cavernous space. Via stalagmite growths to allow visitors to climb above to higher levels and carved skylights to allow light to penetrate the structure I created this sculptural design that in my eyes, beckoned exploration.

The prompt for this assignment was to design a pavilion based around one defining verb. The verb I chose was (to) CARVE. In the second assignment, we were to design a pavilion with only horizontal elements on on a 16 by 9 foundation.

Final Assignment

For the final assignment, we were given a site for the pavilion: the parking lot adjacent to the Goldring Centre on the University of Toronto campus. Thus, for the final assignment, we had to consider he pavilion’s would be; I chose to make my pavilion a social space.

The final iteration, designed for the University of Toronto campus, reimagines a parking lot as an organic social space. Through careful manipulation of form, the structure creates intimate nooks and gathering spaces without traditional furniture, inviting students to discover cozy spots for socializing or quiet contemplation.
